What is the E juice and What it is Made of?

There has been a surge in the popularity and increase in the use of Vape pens. These Vape pens or Vaporizers need a vape juice to create the effect of smoking. That is also known as E-Juice.

  • E-Juice is the fluid/solution used in e-cigarettes and other vaporizers to create vapor. It contains Nicotine but the quantity of nicotine is not constant. Some e-juices contain up to 10% nicotine and some more than 20 %.
  • It all depends on the personal preferences of the person who is looking to make the shift to vaping and his level of tolerance.
  • All types of electronic cigarettes require vapor juice.

What is it Made Of?

E-Juice has been a highly misunderstood substance. The ingredient list, however, is simple.

Here is all that lies in the atomizer of the Vape.

  • Nicotine:

This is the addictive substance that makes a vaping better than smoking. It is usually preferred by vapers. They are offered in fixed quantities from less/light quantity to more heavy/strong quantities. Vapers slowly decrease the quantity of Nicotine to overcome their addiction to cigarettes.

  • Flavorings:

One of the most attractive features of a vape is its flavors. They are food grade natural or artificial ingredients that create vape flavors. There are many flavors of coffee, mint, strawberry, Pina colada and even the taste of tobacco. However, only those flavors that are suitable for inhalation should be used in vape pens.

  • Base:

The base is the most important and the largest component of e-juice. It is the part that actually becomes vapor and is thus the guiding liquid. It equalizes the other ingredients to their proper strength to create the feeling of a “throat hit” that is wanted by vapers.

The Commonly used Bases in an e-juice are:

  • Vegetable Glycerin
  • Propylene glycol

Both are widely used in all consumer and medical products and are recognized by the US Food and Drug Administration(USFDA) as Safe.

Vegetable Glycerin:

Glycerin is a natural substance that is processed from a variety of natural substances including vegetable oils. The vegetable glycerin used in vapes, though is processed from oils, is an alcohol.

  • It has no smell and is thick.
  • It produces a dense vapor
  • It does not give a great throat hit
  • It works best on new atomizers.

Propylene Glycol:

This is an alcohol and is used more than Vegetable oil. Those vapers who have an allergy to this go for Vegetable glycerin.

  • It is odorless and less viscous
  • It gives a better throat hit
  • It works on all atomizers
  • It produces a less visible vapor
  • Used in anti-freeze as it is less harmful

Most manufacturing companies use them in a 90:10 or 80:20 ratios.

How is E-Juice turned into Vapor?

The e-juice containing all the above-mentioned ingredients is contained in a tank or a cartridge. This is heated in the atomizer and that heat converts the base (Vegetable glycerin or Propylene Glycol) into vapor.

What are the possible side effects of E-Juice?

Though vaping is considered to be better than conventional cigarettes, there are possible side effects. E-juice, in particular, has some side effects. Exposure to liquid nicotine which is an important component of e-juice can cause harm.

  1. Adding excessive amounts of nicotine can dehydrate the effect of propylene glycol and lead to a headache or dizziness.
  2. Those with sensitivity to propylene glycol can have rashes, nose bleeding, and irritation. It is advisable to thus try in smaller quantities or shift to a vegetable glycerin base.
  3. An increased heart rate can also be felt in first-time users due to nicotine and alcohol presence.

These risks and effects are subject to the type, method, and intensity of use. An average user does not face these side effects.  These side effects are minimal compared to the danger of cigarettes and so vaping is considered a reliable way to escape tobacco addiction.
